Fighters Up eBook Richard Townshend Bickers

The year is 1940.
Pilot Officer Howard has been flying Hurricanes as war draws closer.
Now, with the conflict underway, he is looking forward with confidence to taking on the Luftwaffe's Messerschmitt 109s heading for Britain's shores.
But his Wing Commander has taken against him and in an act of petty retribution sends him to defend Norway in an campaign where RAF casualties are high.
Howard survives but in Wing Commander Northam he has a bitter enemy.
First as his Wing Leader after the Battle of Britain, and ultimately, and then as a group captain, once again his station commander, Northam seemed intent on proving him unsuited for leadership.
And when Howard, as a newly promoted flight commander, and with 12 kills to his credit, comes back into Northam's baleful clutches in 1942, matters reach a crisis which will make or break his career…
‘Fighters Up’ is a full-throttle WWII fighter pilot adventure story, rich in authentic period detail.
It is perfect for fans of Alistair MacLean and Jack Higgins.
'A thrilling page turner.' - Tom Kasey, best-selling author of 'Trade Off'.

Fighters Up eBook Richard Townshend Bickers
Fighters Up provides you with the feel of what it is like to be a RAF or Luftwaffe fighter pilot during mid WWII. There are two main characters, one British and one German and the chapters switch between the two. Many sensations and feelings of the mental, emotional, and physical side of a man exposed to very stressful combat situations, and the results of losing friends and squadron mates are provided. The author actually places you in the cockpit with details of the sounds, smells, gravity forces, wind, close calls, physical feelings of combat flight that are unique to this book. Other books on the subject either fictional or first-person that I have read have never included these sensations and emotions. Especially the sensations of flight. If you enjoy aviation fiction, especially reading the chaos of combat you should consider this book. There were many times while reading, that I found myself stunned or amazed by what the author has written; descriptions that made me stop and think about what I just read. This is not a glamour or romance of war type novel. It is a very down to earth, brutal and gutsy story. It makes you wonder how anyone who has participated in air combat has ever survived. It also makes you appreciate their accomplishment of surviving. It is an interesting story and a very good read.Product details

Very well written. Great insight on how it was back there. I always enjoy history from those who lived it.
I enjoyed this book about fighter pilots in WWII. The plot between the German and British pilots was convincing and provided some good battle scenes.
I always enjoy books by Mr. Bickers. The stories are well developed as are the chacters. "Fighters Up" is another good story. Mr . Bickers best work is non fiction, Ginger Lacey Fighter Pilot. This is A must read if your interested in The Battle of Britain . I intend to read all of Mr. Bickers works as I always enjoy them.
This was a pretty good book. The characters were a bit stereotyped but the background details worked into the plot were interesting. It gives some insight into the details of flying the planes and the general conditions that prevailed at this time in history.
A wonderful page turner filled with the facts that offer insight to the most important air battles in history. I can't recommend this book enough to
anyone who is a fan of this genre. Author did a fabulous job of weaving the joys and pain these men endured in their battles.
Thoroughly enjoyed it. Churchill was correct in his speech of never so much having been owed by so many to so few. Consider the RAF only had about 1200 pilots of whom over 200 were killed in the battle aside from those wounded. The ramifications of losing is too bitter to contemplate. Had Britain lost the Battle of Britain, it is quite likely Germany would have invaded probably successfully. D Day would not have occurred when it did if at all. Is it conceivable that the war would have turned atomic in Europe as well? What kind of world would we be in today.
